Member of the Month: Wes Fisher

Wes Fisher on set

First introduced by his cousin, a longtime member, filmmaker Wes Fisher started attending Film Society education programs in the hopes of joining a strong filmmaking community and to gain more formal training. Joining Scary Cow film co-op and continuing to take numerous Film Society classes, he developed filmmaking skills and even drew inspiration from others attendees – based on the life of a former classmate who served and died in Iraq, Fisher wrote and directed his first short film, Return

And he has been on a roll since!  His latest short film, a documentary called Seven Miles Out, premiered at the New Hampshire Film Festival, and is wrapping up its online marketing campaign.  Recently traveling to Austin, where a script he co-wrote was in competition as a “Second Rounder” at the Austin Film Festival and Screenwriters Conference, Fisher has also begun releasing his older short films online and has plans to complete two more feature scripts very soon.

Becoming a part of the Film Society member community and utilizing the adult education programs was invaluable to Fisher’s professional filmmaking development.

“SFIFF is also very educational; I learned a lot just from attending panels and listening to filmmaker talks.”

Attending nearly a dozen screenings every festival and participating in Q&As with other filmmakers, Fisher has been able to continue learning by talking to established filmmakers on a more intimate level.

He is clearly hard at work now on many exciting projects of his own – and we can’t wait to see what he does next.  Wes, we’re pleased to recognize as our January Member of the Month, and look forward to seeing you at our 60th Anniversary festival in April!
